I’m an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Utah. I investigate crustal deformation processes with a strong focus on the mechanics of earthquakes and faulting. I run the Rock Physics and Geomechanics Lab and use laboratory experiments to understand and characterize rheological and frictional behaviors of fault zone materials to better understand fault zone processes and the physics of earthquakes. In addition to laboratory experiments, my group uses microstructural analysis, analytical and numerical modeling, field work, and observational seismology to investigate fault zone processes that span timescales of nanoseconds to decades and length scales from the atomic to hundreds of kilometers.
